Summary

My platform includes “improving city services, increasing collaboration between city hall and the school district, encouraging the growth of local businesses, promoting improved cooperation with adjacent communities, as well as more outreach to our regional neighbors, thereby assuring enhanced diversity among our entire citizenry.”

Economic Development

My top priority would be for improvement and expansion of economic development in the City of Shaker Heights.

Under my leadership the City of Shaker Heights would strategically implement public/private partnerships to deploy a Citywide Wireless Meshed Broadband Network in support of a City Wide Infrastructure.

This strategic plan would create a stronger community for all residents of Shaker while strengthening our ability to secure our community, via the utilization of the wireless network to improve the quality of life for our citizens, students, visitors and businesses.

The major goal of the Wireless Broadband Network would be to facilitate enhanced delivery of City Services, enabling improvement of worker productivity by supporting the City’s mobile workforce and First Responders, enabling enhanced quality of service to residents.

This vehicle would streamline the interaction between City government and other government entities and agencies.

The Network would be aligned with my efforts as Mayor to improving services to next generation businesses and jobs.

This service would not further burden taxpayers, all funding would be generated through Ohio Third Frontier investments, and other available grants.

Housing

Shaker Heights has a record number of foreclosures and a high number of housing nuisance abatement actions. This is what I will do as Mayor of Shaker Heights to deal with these issues.

Under my leadership, Shaker Heights will deal with its housing issues through creating public bond issuance to buy foreclosed property in Shaker Heights and fix these homes up for resale through the efforts of Shaker Contractors, where cost effective.

Among the markets that these bonds would be sold to would be the CRA Fund a $745 million dollar mutual fund that supports communities by helping transform problem housing under the community reinvestment act. I would look to the local banks and savings and loans in Shaker for support of this socially beneficial project.

At the same time, I would develop as part of my City Wide Infrastructure Strategy a housing nuisance abatement action team whose job it is to cross city, county, state and federal department lines to provide solutions to these homes with the assistance of a collation of 50 experienced non-governmental organizations.
I would prioritize addressing infrastructure problems and basic city services the following way.

Under my leadership during the first 90 days the City of Shaker Heights would create a City Wide Infrastructure Strategy Planning Group. It would do a SWOT Analysis of the cities infrastructure problems with an emphasis on streets, homeland security, pubic safety and youth. SWOT is a strategic planning tool used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project.

Business Development

Establishment of entrepreneurial focused mentoring partnerships between schools and local businesses.
